Award Ceremony Honours Public Service Excellence

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 16, 2008) - The Public Service of Canada honoured several of its outstanding employees with the Public Service Award of Excellence at a ceremony held today in Gatineau, Quebec. This Award recognizes some of the many Public Service employees who have demonstrated excellence, professionalism and leadership in serving Canadians.

"The Government is committed to the renewal of the Public Service," said Prime Minister Stephen Harper, in his message addressed to award recipients. "These recipients are being honoured as examples of the innovation, professionalism and achievements of our Public Service. In recognizing the best of the Public Service today, we are setting the standard for what it can become in the future."

The Public Service Award of Excellence is presented to recipients in the following categories: Outstanding Career; Management Excellence; Innovation; Excellence in Citizen-focused Service Delivery; Employment Equity and Diversity; Official Languages; Youth; and, Exemplary Contribution under Extraordinary Circumstances.

This year's award recipients have demonstrated, by their excellence and their commitment, how the Public Service embraces change and continually seeks better ways to serve Canadians.

"These talented public servants have distinguished themselves in serving Canadians with excellence, demonstrating the importance of the institution of the Public Service of Canada to the country," said Kevin G. Lynch, Clerk of the Privy Council. "To continue to achieve accomplishments like these, the Public Service is renewing itself, so it is ready to take on tomorrow's challenges."
