Awards Ceremony Recognizes Employers Who Support Canadian Forces Reservists

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwire - March 24, 2009) - Mr. Robert Vandewater, Chairman of the Provincial Canadian Forces Liaison Council (CFLC), presided over an awards ceremony organized by the CFLC on Thursday, March 19 at the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce Luncheon. The ceremony recognized civilian employers who have been supportive of their employees who are also Reservists in the Canadian Forces.

"The talent and skills of the men and women in the Reserves is outstanding and is a great contribution to our Canadian Forces. Many employers recognize these qualities and reap the benefits when they have these people as employees" said Mr. Vandewater. "Outstanding amongst these employers are those who create a positive and supportive culture in their organization. The most important is to allow Reservists time off to serve."

The following organizations received provincial awards:

- Simplot Canada Ltd., Portage-La-Prairie

- Garden Valley School Division, Winkler

- MTS Allstream Inc., Winnipeg

- Manitoba Department of Correctional Services, Winnipeg Remand Centre, Winnipeg

- AVEOS , Winnipeg

- St. Boniface General Hospital, Winnipeg

- Standard Aero, Winnipeg

Major-General Dennis Tabbernor, the Chief Reserves and Cadets, was also there to thank the award-winning employers. He praised all employers, stating, "Today's Canadian Forces rely very heavily on members of the Reserve Force to complete their missions both at home and overseas. These soldiers return with new life experiences and significant people skills which will be of great benefit to their employers."

The CFLC is a group of civilian business leaders and educators who volunteer their time and effort to promote the primary Reserve Force - Canada's part-time military - by highlighting the benefits of Reserve Force training and experience to the civilian workplace.

The mandate of the CFLC is to enhance the availability of Reservists for their military duty by obtaining the support and co-operation of organization leaders in Canada. The CFLC's vision is that all organization leaders in Canada actively support Reservists.

Official awards ceremonies are one means of recognizing supportive employers, who are nominated by individual Reservist employees. These awards enable the mission of the CFLC: To educate organization leaders on the Reserve Force and encourage them to support training and operations with minimal impact on the Reservist.
