Axiomatics Launches Web-Based Graphical Policy Editor for Attribute Based Access Control (ABAC)

Speeds ABAC Implementation and Empowers the Business Owners of Access Control Policies

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM and STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN--(Marketwired - Mar 17, 2015) - Today at the Gartner Identity & Access Management Summit in London, Axiomatics announces the immediate availability of the Axiomatics Policy Server version 6.0 (APS 6.0), with a web-based graphical user interface for access control policy creation and editing. This capability bridges the gap between the technical implementation of Attribute Based Access Control (ABAC) and the business leaders that define access control policy. This release provides a fast-track path for shifting to ABAC, away from one-dimensional role-based access to a robust multi-dimensional fine-grained authorization.

The greatest challenge in an ABAC implementation is often non-technical in nature. The new interface for APS 6.0 is designed to facilitate this transition by giving policy authors the power to represent policies graphically and policy administrators the means to verify and comment upon policies. On the front end, the policy editor allows authors to easily transition from natural language rules into standards-based XACML for implementation.

The Axiomatics Policy Server version 6.0 is a robust solution with several components working together seamlessly. Clients send access requests to the server, which in turn grants or refuses access based on corporate policies that administrators define using Axiomatics user-friendly policy authoring tools. The authorization service may also consider context-related data retrieved from other sources.

"The launch of our visual policy editor as part of APS 6.0 comes at the right time for organizations making the shift to attribute-based access control," said Babak Sadighi, CEO at Axiomatics. "It provides the support necessary to build and edit policies across business units, ensuring business rules are translated effectively into access control for critical applications and databases."

Enterprises in highly regulated industries and subject to government regulations (such as export control) and compliance standards (such as HIPAA) are among those moving to ABAC. Federal agencies are also making the shift to enabling infrastructures with ABAC capabilities, as outlined in NIST Special Publication 800-162.

A European banking customer of Axiomatics notes, "We've been a satisfied customer of Axiomatics' for little more than a year -- and have our attribute-based access control system project in place. The new policy editor from Axiomatics is a huge step for this technology -- it will help us to talk to business areas in an easier way, and it will help to understand the policy and its structure. We see it as a first step to give business areas the responsibilities for administration of policies. It improves usability, collaboration, and saves time."
