B. Braun Launches Ster-ASSIST(TM)

First & Only Comprehensive Sterile IV Kit Supporting Ultrasound

BETHLEHEM, PA--(Marketwired - Nov 16, 2015) -  B. Braun Medical Inc. today announced the launch of its Ster-ASSIST™ Sterile Peripheral IV Catheter Insertion Kit. In an effort to promote best practice in sterile technique and clinician safety, while still providing convenience, B. Braun has packaged into a single kit all of the components needed to perform ultrasound-guided peripheral IV therapy procedures.

The all-inclusive Ster-ASSIST kit includes components such as sterile ultrasound gel and a probe cover, and longer length Introcan Safety® IV Catheters of several gauge sizes to allow clinicians to access deeper, harder-to-reach veins. These Introcan Safety IV Catheters feature an automatic, passive safety design and are packaged with the CARESITE® needleless extension set, both B. Braun products.

"The components of this ready-to-use kit help reduce the risk of contamination by maintaining the integrity of a sterile field, while protecting healthcare workers against needlestick injuries and saving valuable procedure preparation time," said Tom Sutton, Vice President of Vascular Access Systems at B. Braun. "Equally important is the use of ultrasound guidance to facilitate first stick success for improved outcomes," added Sutton.

The Ster-ASSIST components are provided to help drive performance and compliance for ultrasound-guided IV insertion procedures. The growing trend of using ultrasound guidance to place peripheral IV catheters reduces complication rates,1 improves efficiency,2 and exposes vessel options that are not otherwise visible.3
