B&H Photo Welcomes Convergent Design’s Announcement of Apollo, a Portable Multi-Camera Recorder/Switcher

Video News: Convergent Design's New Apollo Is a 7.7" OLED Monitor/Recorder With Live Switching Functionality That Can Simultaneously Record up to Four HD Video Signals, as Well as a Quad-Split or Live-Switch

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - October 29, 2015) - B&H Photo would like to share the announcement of Convergent Design’s new Apollo, a portable HD multi-camera recorder and live switcher able to simultaneously record up to four HD video signals, along with a fifth channel of either a quad-split reference view or a live-switch. This allows it to function as a true 4-channel live switcher, with four isolated video recordings up to 1080p at 24/30 fps using Apple ProRes codecs. Built around the same external chassis and 7.7" OLED touchscreen panel as the Odyssey7Q+, Apollo re-defines what it means to be a portable switcher, fitting a production studio into the palm of your hand.

All of the footage from up to four cameras stays in sync with matching timecode without requiring a genlock connection, and all files are recorded to the same card in the same ProRes format for a streamlined post-production workflow. Packed with all of the image analysis tools found in the Odyssey7Q+, Apollo makes it easy to match each camera during setup, and even add preset or custom 3D LUTs. Two 2.5" SSD slots are provided that support spanning for extended record times or mirroring for simultaneously backup. It supports Convergent Design’s 2.5" SSD media and qualified third-party drives.

Convergent Design’s new Apollo Media Manager App lets you export your recordings as either separate Apple ProRes files or as a single multi-camera QuickTime file that you can drop directly into your NLE software. Through a future firmware update planned for early 2016, you’ll be able to record an Edit Decision List (EDL) XML file from your live switch, making it easy to clean up your live-switch in your editing software for final delivery. Additional features planned to be added via future firmware updates include dual 4K/UHD recording at 24/25/30p in Apple ProRes, DNxHD recording, audio delay, on-screen source naming, and the ability to interconnect up to three Apollos to support up to 12-channel HD or 6-channel 4K/UHD recording. A remote keyboard control unit will also be available, along with a rack mount and additional accessories.

Apollo is scheduled for release in December, 2015, and will come packed with an SSD-to-USB3 adapter, a 5-pack of SSD mounting handles, and a universal AC power supply included. Current Odyssey7Q and Odyssey7Q+ owners can also take advantage of Apollo functionality via a paid upgrade through Convergent Design’s website, at or around the same time Apollo units begin shipping.
