Babson College Manages Multi-Vendor Wireless Network Using AirWave Wireless Management System

Single Console Handles Mixed Aruba and Cisco Wi-Fi Deployment

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - August 4, 2009) - Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARUN), a global leader in wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions, today announced that Babson College has deployed Aruba's AirWave Wireless Management System (AWMS) to manage the multi-vendor wireless network at its Wellesley, Massachusetts campus. Babson has a network of over 400 access points located in residential housing and staff areas, and needed a consolidated view of both. AWMS is the only tool to offer both management and a single console view of a multi-vendor network, and following a six month trial evaluation Babson purchased the tool.

"We use the AWMS on a daily basis to troubleshoot wireless issues, identify rogue APs, visualize network coverage and performance, and generate management reports," said Bill Thompson, network engineer for Babson College. "The rich suite of features has significantly reduced troubleshooting time, improved visibility into network usage has helped improve capacity planning, and the locationing capability has even helped us locate stolen laptops. Working with a division that does nothing but wireless LAN management has proven to be the right choice for Babson College."

One of the most important benefits of AWMS is its ability to quickly identify network performance issues. A single mouse click enables an operator to see the access point with which a user is associated, the RSSI, association history, and location. "What used to take hours can now be done in seconds," said Thompson.

Beyond troubleshooting, AWMS helps the college recover stolen laptops by generating an alert when a stolen laptop connects to the network, plan for future deployments by highlighting which areas are most utilized, and group locations and buildings to provide better visibility into usage and performance trends across the campus. Other key features include:

-- Support for multiple generations of technology, wireless standards,
    and vendors through a single console interface;
-- Comprehensive diagnostics, advanced troubleshooting, and reporting
    including assistance with PCI audits;
-- Extensive Help Desk features and interfaces to trouble ticket
    solutions such as BMC Remedy; and
-- Ability to monitor individual interfaces, including Wi-Fi radios, and
    configure the access points.

"Wireless networks are critical infrastructure for educational institutions, and a powerful management tool with comprehensive analytics and Help Desk support can increase up-time and improve the end user experience," said Bryan Wargo, general manager of Aruba's network management division. "AWMS provides better monitoring, management, and diagnostics of more generations of Cisco wireless LANs than do any other tools on the market. And it does so from a single console. If you have a multi-vendor wireless LAN, AWMS is the tool of choice for you."
