Back in Motion Rehab Inc.: Skills Connect for Immigrants Contract Extended

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Nov. 4, 2014) - Back in Motion Rehab Inc. (Back in Motion) is delighted to announce that the contract for the Skills Connect for Immigrants Program (Skills Connect) has been extended through to March 31, 2016.

"We are ecstatic to hear that the Skills Connect for Immigrants Program has been extended for an additional year…. The program is so integral to helping skilled immigrants find meaningful work where they can utilize their skills and expertise. We have experienced many success stories since the program's inception back in 2006 and now we can look forward to helping many more immigrants secure work in their field," says Anna Price, Skills Connect Program Manager.

Skills Connect is part of the WelcomeBC umbrella of services, made possible through funding from the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia. Designed to help skilled immigrants utilize their skills and experience to find meaningful employment in B.C., Skills Connect provides immigrants with resources, support and employment expertise.

To help skilled immigrants obtain employment within their areas of expertise, Back in Motion's Skills Connect Program offers free services, including:

  • Career planning and assessments
  • Skills enhancement
  • Workplace orientation
  • Specialized workshops
  • One-on-one employment counselling

"Back in Motion's workshops like résumé writing, interview skills, networking, paved the way in my job hunting," describes one Skills Connect client.

Back in Motion has served over 8,400 clients through Skills Connect, since we began delivering the program. We are proud to announce that over the last year, 691 immigrants have successfully completed the Skills Connect Program (including subcontractor data from MOSAIC and ISSofBC), and 438 have found employment.

"I am grateful for my experience and the assistance provided to me through Skills Connect. I am happy to have gained the same type of job as I was doing in my country," says former Skills Connect client and Quality Control Technician.

Connecting employers with skilled workers to help them meet their staffing needs, Skills Connect offers employers free services such as:

  • Targeted distribution of job postings to a qualified pool of candidates
  • Access to pre-screened and skilled workers with up-to-date credentials
  • Opportunities to connect with workers who have employer-identified skills

In an environment where skilled labour is in short supply, Skills Connect helps employers connect with immigrants who are eager to work and have the support of vocational experts. Skills Connect works with both employers and immigrants to help make meaningful employment connections.
