Badminton All Stars-The Exclusive New Junior Coaching Programme from David Lloyd Leisure

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Oct. 11, 2010) - David Lloyd Leisure has partnered with BADMINTON England, the governing body responsible for training the elite England squad, to launch Badminton All Stars - the new and exclusive junior badminton coaching programme.

Available from October 2010, Badminton All Stars is a high quality progressive pathway that focuses on children's development, having fun, improving fitness levels and social interaction for children aged 6 - 10 years old.

Following in the footsteps of David Lloyd Leisure's highly successful Tennis All Stars programme that delivers weekly coaching sessions to thousands of children, Badminton All Stars offers the most advanced coaching techniques as applied by BADMINTON England, and enables children to reach their full potential dependent on their age and ability.

Ross Matheson, Group Racquets Manager at David Lloyd Leisure, says: "Medical studies have proved conclusively that children need to do more to improve their physical health, and participating in sports is one of the best ways to improve your child's fitness. It is just as important for your child to be stimulated physically, as well as mentally.

"Organised sports programmes like Badminton All Stars give children the opportunity to be active and learn new physical skills in a safe and healthy family environment. Sport teaches children many transferable 'life skills' such as sportsmanship, fairness, overcoming adversity, perseverance and a desire to succeed.

"By partnering with BADMINTON England, we have developed a programme in line with the recommendations of the official national governing body of the sport, ensuring that children recieve the best coaching possible. Our programme is all about getting as many children as possible involved. Some of these children will have a natural flare for the sport and, who knows, may even go on represent Great Britain at future Olympics."

Fiona Young, Commercial Director at BADMINTON England, says: "As David Lloyd Leisure has a long history of delivering high quality coaching to thousands of children with their tennis All Stars programme, it was a natural fit for us to partner with them on developing a similarly placed Badminton All Stars programme. We're confident that with their unique place in the market and significant expertise, David Lloyd Leisure can help us get more children on court and grow the number of young players by 2013."

The Badminton All Stars 'Player Pathways' is divided into 3 levels: red, orange and green. Each level has guidelines for the:

  • Ages of children
  • Equipment
  • Skills learnt
  • Types of competition
  • Awards that can be gained

David Lloyd Leisure boasts over 180 badminton courts in the UK alone, with a host of friendly qualified coaches, so there's nowhere better place for your child to learn and play!
