BakBone Announces Expanded Technology Partnership with Silicon Graphics to Enhance Enterprise-Level Business Continuity

SAN DIEGO--(CCNMatthews - Apr 4, 2006) -

Seamless Integration of NetVault: Replicator into SGI InfiniteStorage NAS Provides SGI Customers Access to BakBone's Unique Real-Time Replication

BakBone Software® (TSX:BKB)(Pink Sheets:BKBO), a global provider of heterogeneous integrated data protection solutions, and Silicon Graphics Inc. (OTC:SGID) today announced a strategic partnership to deliver enterprise business continuity. The enhanced offerings are targeted at new and existing enterprise customers, as well as high-performance users and government entities. This high availability solution will allow organizations to consolidate Network Attached Storage (NAS) or tiered storage for improved data lifecycle management and expanded data protection, including disaster recovery and business continuity.

This agreement further enhances BakBone's continued leadership position in providing customers industry-leading data protection solutions for Linux® environments. With the expanded relationship, SGI will resell BakBone's NetVault®: Replicator worldwide as part of an integrated high availability and disaster recovery solution for greater protection against application downtime and data loss.

Under the terms of the strategic agreement, NetVault: Replicator will ship with SGI® NAS products sold directly or through SGI's global network of value added resellers (VARs) and distributors. To ease the administrative challenges caused by the lack of integration between current disparate point solutions, NetVault: Replicator has been integrated into the SGI® InfiniteStorage NAS product line. The combined offering will allow Linux users to leverage the unique real-time replication in BakBone's NetVault: Replicator product suite along with SGI's powerful NAS portfolio to satisfy a variety of enterprise uptime and budget requirements.

"A leading requirement for senior managers is to ensure that the best systems and processes are in place to support business continuity in the event of a disaster," commented Andrew Bowles, Director of BakBone's Strategic Partner Group. "Our close engineering and development collaboration with SGI offers our mutual partners and end users a field-proven solution for achieving their data availability objectives. By extending BakBone's heterogeneous platform support, NetVault: Replicator provides SGI end users a powerful solution set designed to ensure the availability of mission-critical data while lowering total cost of ownership."

The NetVault: Replicator product suite is a heterogeneous, cross-platform 'hybrid byte-level' data replication technology that combines the security of synchronous mirroring of critical online information with the reliability of journaling technology to provide continuous real-time replication over any IP network. When combined with SGI InfiniteStorage NAS solutions, customers benefit from fast, scalable and secure data management solutions that simplify the sharing and management of valuable data assets, reducing overall storage costs.

"In an age where the quantity of structured and unstructured data continues to increase exponentially, availability and reliability are critical to business continuance," said John Howarth, Director of Storage Systems, SGI. "By seamlessly integrating the innovative bi-directional replication capabilities of NetVault: Replicator into our InfiniteStorage NAS product line, we can provide a highly available, standards-based, NAS solution that helps storage and networking administrators manage a complete business continuance strategy."

According to Tony Asaro, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, "Business continuity preparedness for mission-critical functions now means protecting a whole host of applications ranging from email and ERP to data warehousing and rich media-on-demand, plus maintaining 24x7 availability and usage. With an established track record for developing high performance and highly available solutions, SGI and BakBone can offer enterprises trusted solutions that leverage SGI's InfiniteStorage NAS product line and BakBone's data replication technologies to meet a wide range of business continuity needs."
