BakeSpace.com Earns Webby Award Honors in Food, Social App and Social Media Categories

Marks Seventh Consecutive Year of Multiple Webby Honors and Nominations, Including Back-to-Back Honors for Its DIY App and eBook Publishing Platform

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 10, 2013) - For the seventh consecutive year, BakeSpace, Inc. has earned multiple Webby Award honors in some of the most hotly-contested categories. For 2013, the company's core BakeSpace.com online community was honored in the "Food" and "Social Media" categories, while its Cookbook Cafe ebook and app publishing platform was honored for "Social App: Tablet."

Cookbook Cafe is the first do-it-yourself digital publishing tool that enables anyone (including home chefs, brands and nonprofit organizations) to create, market and sell a cookbook as both a native iPad app and a web-based ebook. It also earned Webby honors last year for "Social App" and was recognized by the IACP (International Association of Culinary Professionals) for "Outstanding Use of New Technology."

"Recognition from the Webbys is always sweet, but it's especially gratifying to be honored again for Cookbook Cafe," said BakeSpace Founder Babette Pepaj. "We created the platform to empower everyone who has ever dreamed of publishing a cookbook. We want to help them share their passion with the world, and even turn their recipes into revenue."

The Cookbook Cafe platform includes:

  • A web-based cookbook builder that lets users publish a multimedia cookbook as both an ebook and iPad App without the need for a designer or app developer
  • An interactive web and iPad App cookbook storefront supported by the BakeSpace.com community of home cooks and culinary enthusiasts
  • A free web and iPad App cookbook reader for downloading and viewing cookbooks. The reader includes a patent-pending contextual search engine that lets users search for recipes across all cookbooks based on ingredient, cooking method or other search criteria. This feature helps even the most niche cookbooks and unknown authors get discovered.

In addition, a new group publishing feature enables authors to collaborate and crowdsource their cookbooks with recipes and other content from family, friends, fans, and other supporters. This feature has been used by groups and nonprofit organizations, as well as brands that want to engage fans by inviting them to contribute their favorite recipes.

"Our goal for Cookbook Cafe is simple," Pepaj added. "It's to democratize cookbook publishing."
