BANCO SANTANDER: Fabio Barbosa to lead Grupo Santander in Brazil.

MADRID, SPAIN--(Marketwire - February 27, 2008) - Banco Santander announces that Fabio Barbosa, Chairman of Banco Real, will become the top executive for all Grupo Santander businesses in Brazil, once the relevant authorizations have been obtained and Banco Real is legally separated from the ABN-AMRO Group.

Gabriel Jaramillo, who has done an excellent job as head of Country Head of Santander in Brazil, will provide advice and support to the Office of the Chairman of Grupo Santander.

Until Fabio Barbosa takes up his position as head of Grupo Santander in Brazil, José Paivawill replace Gabriel Jaramillo as head of Banco Santander in Brazil.

Banco Real and Banco Santander in Brasil will continue to operate as two separate legal entities, with their own governing bodies and management, until Banco Real completes the process of separation from ABN-AMRO.

Banco Real, once it becomes part of Grupo Santander, will be integrated into the Americas Division. Given the special importance of the country after the acquisition of Banco Real, a Corporate Supervisory Committee has been set up, presided over by Chairman Emilio Botín and made up of Alfredo Sáenz, Second Vice Chairman and Chief Executive, Francisco Luzón, Director and Senior Executive Vice President for the Americas Division, and Marcial Portela, Senior Executive Vice President heading the integration of Banco Real into the Group.
