Bank of China New York Deploys Proofpoint to Solve Spam, Data Loss Prevention and Email Encryption Challenges in Days

US Branch of World's 5th Largest Bank Stops Spam and Viruses, Secures Sensitive Data and Improves Compliance Using Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway™ Appliance

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - March 15, 2010) -  Proofpoint Inc. (http://www.proofpoint.com/), the leading provider of SaaS email security, email archiving and data loss prevention solutions, today announced that the Bank of China New York Branch (http://www.bocusa.com) has deployed the Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway™ (http://www.proofpoint.com/products/msg.php) appliance with Proofpoint's complete suite of inbound email security and outbound data loss prevention features including the Proofpoint Regulatory Compliance™ (http://www.proofpoint.com/products/regulatory.php) and Proofpoint Encryption™ (http://www.proofpoint.com/products/email-encryption.php) solutions. Bank of China uses Proofpoint to block incoming spam and viruses, prevent exposure of private information and encrypt sensitive outbound emails to achieve compliance with data privacy regulations including the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA).

In selecting a new email security solution, Bank of China's top priorities were improving anti-spam and anti-virus performance while also ensuring the security and privacy of customer financial data.

Directly related to the email security issue is a growing concern among financial services regulators about the safe transmission of Personally Identifiable Information (PII), or an individual's private data, including Social Security Numbers and credit or debit card numbers.

On an ongoing basis, Proofpoint's DLP and encryption features actively safeguard against the loss of critical customer data and other sensitive financial information.

"Financial services institutions like the Bank of China handle some of the most sensitive information of any profession, and also must address increasingly stringent data privacy regulations," said Peter Galvin, chief marketing officer for Proofpoint. "We're proud that our team was able to help solve Bank of China's spam problems while also ensuring regulatory compliance and helping protect their customers from risks including identity theft and fraud."
