NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - September 29, 2016) - BankMobile, a division of Customers Bank, and America's largest mobile-first bank with a mission to make banking affordable, effortless and financially empowering, today announced that its Foundation has selected Denver Berumen as the sweepstakes winner for its Passport Student Success Program. Berumen, a single mother to a five-year-old daughter, is studying Finance Accounting at Tulsa Community College (TCC) and currently resides in Collinsville, OK.
The BankMobile Foundation awarded Berumen over $28,000 to completely pay off her current student loans at a ceremony held at TCC's Metro Campus Student Union on September 29, 2016. The check was presented by Kati Kennedy, Vice President, Relationship Management, BankMobile Disbursements. Also in attendance was Leigh B. Goodson, Ph.D., President and CEO, TCC.
"Being selected the winner of the BankMobile Foundation's sweepstakes means a lot to me," said Berumen. "I had a major career change in 2014, which impacted my financial stability. The winnings allow me to pay off my student debt, and to be in the position I was prior to 2014. I am very grateful to BankMobile and for the great impact they are having on my financial life. I believe they are the best, most simple bank to use in the country, and their tools to financially empower me are unparalleled."
The BankMobile Foundation serves as a platform to financially empower individuals by promoting financial literacy through: scholarships and grants, sweepstakes, funding social entrepreneurs and building strategic partnerships with organizations dedicated to promoting financial education.
"It is truly exciting that the winner of our Passport sweepstakes is a hardworking mother, who not only works fulltime but has returned to school to earn her bachelor's degree and build a better career and life for both herself and her daughter," stated Luvleen Sidhu, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer at BankMobile and Director of the BankMobile Foundation. "Financial empowerment drives us at BankMobile. These types of initiatives greatly impact the lives of our customers, and we will continue to reward and educate them in the most innovative, fun way possible."
"Tulsa Community College believes in offering affordable higher education. This is an exciting opportunity for one of our students to graduate in May debt-free," Goodson said. "We are committed to our mission to get students to college, through college and into the workplace."
