Banner Health to Experience $1 Million ROI After Implementing Fortis Document Management Software From Westbrook Technologies

BRANFORD, CT -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 16, 2005 -- Westbrook Technologies, a leader in enterprise document management software for the mid-market and one of Deloitte and Touche's 2005 "Fast 50" technology companies in Connecticut, today announced that Phoenix-based Banner Health will experience a return on investment ("ROI") of $1 million over three years with implementation of the Company's Fortis document management software.

Banner Health is one of the largest not-for-profit healthcare systems in the country. Its 37 facilities offer an array of services including inpatient hospital care, home care, hospice care, nursing registries, surgery centers, laboratories, outpatient services and rehabilitation services.

In 2004, Banner Health approached Westbrook Technologies' reseller GetProof to explore how a document management system could help them electronically share data and documents throughout their diverse organization. In addition to cost savings, Banner Health and GetProof identified the following goals:

-- Increase productivity
-- Improve communication and messaging effectiveness
-- Centrally organized but geographically diverse functional areas
Of their 37 facilities, Banner Health selected the Western Region Central Billing Office ("CBO") located in Colorado. The department manages the patient and insurance billing functions for the entire Banner Western Region -- a paper-intensive process that involves gathering a myriad of documents including drivers licenses, consent forms and insurance forms -- most of which are captured on a photocopier.

Prior to selecting the Fortis document management software from Westbrook, scanning of insurance denial documents was outsourced by the central billing office. Banner had no control over annual changes in scanning costs or turnaround time. All scanned documents were retained on CDs, creating confusion and a single source of failure if one of the CDs was lost or misplaced. In addition, the CDs could be damaged. Although the images were available for viewing, the CBO had to conform to the rules imposed by the outsourcing. Fortis drastically improved this process.

Once the initial system installation was completed, documents were scanned and stored in a central database. Users throughout the system could access these electronic records at any time, printing only as needed. A secured access and back-up system provided a simplified way to ensure HIPAA compliance and to maintain important document images with appropriate controls.

The success of the installation resulted in Banner Health's Western Region Central Billing Office installing scanners in all admission areas and converting of all its CD-based images into the electronic document archive system. Ongoing, the CBO will be scanning images directly into Fortis for use by multiple personnel at many facilities. As a result, the health system is able to eliminate outsourced scanning costs altogether, resulting in a savings of approximately $33,000 per month and $1 million over three years. The ROI was achieved in a mere five months and includes the cost of the server hardware.

Other examples of ROI across the organization include:

-- Accounts Payable -- Implemented Fortis to manage paper invoices. Now
the department can quickly and efficiently scan invoices and use
Westbrook's business integration tool EnableIt to push data into the Lawson
ERP system. Suppliers' information is now electronic and the department has
experienced a dramatic reduction in paper storage. Currently, requests for
payment, employee reimbursement and advances for company travel are
expedited through an overnight carrier service. Banner plans on saving
approximately $50,000 a year on shipping costs alone.
-- Medical Staff and Human Resources -- Implemented Fortis to enable file
sharing across multiple facilities and created substantial savings from
file storage reduction and efficiencies. Banner realizes considerable time
savings in retrieval costs of physician credentialing documentation as well
as reduced costs of off-site storage with a third party.
-- Legal Contracting -- Fortis will be used to store contract images,
making them accessible to multiple areas without having to search for the
paper version. Banner plans on saving approximately two thirds of the
auditing expense required for contract research and verification.
-- Human Resources -- Documents filled out by new employees are scanned
into the Fortis system and then shredded. This allows Banner to avoid
purchasing a $10,000 filing system at Banner Estrella. Banner will be back
scanning all existing records into Fortis, allowing employee records to be
available to the human resources department at any facility. This avoids
lost paperwork syndrome during employee transfers.
-- Physician Health Organization -- Planning to implement Fortis to
manage all forms and documents. As with other departments, similar savings
    are expected in this area.

Other Banner departments will also be implementing Fortis in the coming months. In addition, because records are mirrored at an off-site facility, they can be easily recovered in the event of a disaster, an important element in Banner Health's disaster recovery plan.
