Barrick Gold Starts Up World's Highest-Altitude Wind Turbine in Argentina, an Industrial Info News Alert

CORDOBA, ARGENTINA--(Marketwire - August 18, 2008) - Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- Barrick Gold Corporation (NYSE:ABX) (Toronto, Ontario) has announced that it began operation of the world's highest-altitude wind generation turbine on August 14 at the Veladero mine in Argentina. The turbine is located in the province of San Juan almost 4,200 meters above sea level. The generator, which was installed at the end of 2007, was customized to adapt to the region's extreme climate conditions of cold and severe winds.
