Baseball Canada, Canadian Dermatology Association and La Roche-Posay Team Up to Strike Out the Sun

OTTAWA, ON--(Marketwired - August 20, 2013) - Baseball Canada today announced, in partnership with the Canadian Dermatology Association, a new initiative called Strike Out the Sun, which aims to educate the baseball community about the serious health risks associated with too much sun exposure.

"On behalf of Baseball Canada and all of our members, we are pleased to introduce Strike Out the Sun for our 2013 National Championships," said Baseball Canada President Ray Carter. "The more we can educate our players, coaches, officials and spectators on sun safety the better it will be for our sport."

Baseball Canada is also pleased to announce that La Roche-Posay, one of the leading sunscreen providers in Canada, is the official sponsor of Baseball Canada's 2013 Strike Out the Sun campaign.

For its part, La Roche-Posay has made available sunscreen samples which will be provided by the CDA to all athletes, coaches and officials at the nine Baseball Canada 2013 championships. La Roche-Posay also wants to ensure spectators are sun safe and has provided additional sunscreen samples which the CDA will provide for each game.

Baseball Canada and the Canadian Dermatology Association worked together to produce a sun tips information card for athletes at the National Championships. The card contains useful information covering topics such as: the harmful effects of UV rays, what type of clothing to wear in the sun and how to choose an appropriate sunscreen.

"Summertime in Canada is much too short, so naturally we all want to be outside enjoying the warmer days and for many Canadians that includes playing baseball," said Dr. Cheryl Rosen, National Chair of the Canadian Dermatology Association's Sun Awareness Program. "Hopefully this partnership will help baseball players, managers and spectators develop new sun protection habits that will reduce the chances that we'll see them in our offices down the road because of skin cancer and photoaging."
