BAYCOM'S Innovation Helps Wauwatosa Win "Effective Use of Technology" Award

The City Recognized at Public Policy Forum's "Salute to Local Government" Award Ceremony

WAUWATOSA, WI--(Marketwire - Jun 27, 2012) - BAYCOM, Inc., a Wisconsin Motorola equipment reseller, partnered with the city of Wauwatosa to produce an award-winning solution to improve city-wide communication and surveillance. The city originally hired BAYCOM to install video surveillance at critical water department sites throughout the city. After further analysis, BAYCOM saw an opportunity for additional improvement by creating a reliable and secure wireless network that connects key utilities, buildings, and worksites across the city.

The Public Policy Forum, a Milwaukee-based nonpartisan public policy research organization, recognized the four-year project at its 20th Annual "Salute to Local Government" award ceremony. "There are many examples of strong government performance throughout our region, and of innovative government leaders who excel at their work," says Rob Henken, Forum president. "The Salute reflects the Forum's strong belief that good government is worth celebrating, and that the public needs to hear about the many examples of ingenuity and outstanding performance that are occurring every day in our local governments and school districts."

"As the leading provider of critical voice, video, and data products and services to commercial, manufacturing and local government entities throughout the Midwest, we are honored to be partners in Wauwatosa's award-winning technology infrastructure project," said Steve Elias, President of BAYCOM. "Our goal in every project is to do things right the first time and we accomplished that by reducing annual operating costs while ensuring long-term benefits for the city."

Wauwatosa's upgrade initiative was spurred by the city's receipt of an $80,000 Homeland Security grant to install the new video surveillance system. "BAYCOM not only met the original objective but also laid the foundation for future applications, allowing the city to stretch the grant to upgrade the rest of its information technology infrastructure," said Michelle Dahlen, Public Safety Systems Administrator for the City of Wauwatosa.

The result is high-speed connectivity and vastly enhanced capacity for communications between city hall and the police department, $25,000 of new annual revenue from a new communications tower, and opportunities to expand the infrastructure to other areas of operations.
