Bayer CropScience Discusses Conservation and Sustainability With Howard G. Buffett at Farm Progress Show

Event Is Part of Agriculture Conservation Tour at the Show

DECATUR, IL--(Marketwire - Sep 2, 2011) - Creating high-yielding technologies that reduce environmental impacts on farmland across the U.S. and globally were the topic of conversation in the Bayer CropScience Farm Progress Show booth at the 2011 Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Ill., when farmer and philanthropist Howard G. Buffett stopped by to visit about sustainability.

Bayer CropScience regional manager Mark Wrucke shared information on the company's commitment to delivering world-class science and innovations that give farmers solutions to grow enough food to feed an increasing world population while, at the same time, working to improve environmental stewardship and reduce the company's carbon footprint.

"Our challenge is feeding the rapidly-expanding world while supporting a balance between people, planet and prosperity," notes Wrucke. "The sound innovation and people committed to progressive solutions position Bayer CropScience to work toward a future with an ample global food supply, while protecting our vital natural resources."

Winter Cereals: Sustainability in Action
One example of the company's commitment to sustainability is the Winter Cereals: Sustainability in Action initiative, which promotes a stewardship model of improving agricultural productivity while maintaining habitat for wildlife. The joint research and education initiative is a partnership between Bayer CropScience and Ducks Unlimited.

The Winter Cereals: Sustainability in Action initiative focuses on educating growers in the Prairie Pothole region about the environmental benefits of growing winter wheat. Winter wheat can improve a producer's operation by increasing profitability while spreading out workload for labor and equipment. At the same time, the fall-planted crop also provides adequate nesting cover for waterfowl because there is little field disturbance during the nesting season.

The Bayer CropScience Museum of Modern Agriculture gave attendees of the 2011 Farm Progress Show a look at the longevity and importance of modern agriculture to the world. Photos from the Museum of Modern Agriculture capture the museum experience.
