Bayshore Networks Awarded a U.S. Patent for Pallaton(TM) Policy Rules That Detect Layer 7 Anomalies in IoT and Industrial Enterprise Networks

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Nov 19, 2014) -  Bayshore Networks®, which is setting the standard for operational, safety and security policy for the Internet of Things, announced that it has been awarded a U.S. patent for Layer 7 anomaly detection rules that are inherent in its Pallaton™ policy language.

Francis Cianfrocca, Bayshore Networks' Founder & CEO, is credited as the inventor on the patent.

The patent describes a groundbreaking method for detecting security breaches by correlating observations of network behavior. The method uses Layer 7 (application layer) events to construct baseline profiles, which are correlated using a novel statistical method. This provides a far richer behavioral context for detecting stealthy attackers compared to standard approaches that rely on net flow data, firewall logs, and conventional IDS exceptions.

The method has cybersecurity applications in industrial OT and enterprise IT applications, as well as machine-to-machine communications and the Internet of Things.

Pallaton, an extensible, XML-based policy language, is Bayshore's core technology. The open, flexible Pallaton engine provides a foundation for organization-wide policy execution. Leveraging Pallaton, the unified Bayshore framework is ultra-fast and flexible, providing content-aware inspection of applications and policies at line rate. Its easy extensibility enables it to categorize and filter by users, devices, applications, devices, or transactions.

Titled "Firewall Apparatus, Systems, and Methods Employing Detection of Application Anomalies," U.S. Patent No. 8,893,253 is downloadable and viewable on the USPTO website at USPTO.gov.
