BC Medical Association: Dr. Brian Day Becomes CMA President-Elect

CHARLOTTETOWN, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 22, 2006) - The BC Medical Association congratulates Dr. Brian Day on his election as President-Elect of the Canadian Medical Association. In what became a controversial nomination process when defeated candidate Dr. Jack Burak threw his hat back into the ring, Dr. Day's election was confirmed August 22nd at the CMA's annual meeting in PEI. As per CMA bylaws the tally of votes for each candidate was not revealed.

"The delegates believed in the democratic nomination process, they agreed that the vote by the doctors of BC was worthy, and they decided to uphold that vote," said Dr. Margaret MacDiarmid, President of the BC Medical Association. "It was BC's turn to vote and we are immensely pleased that Dr. Day will become the President of the CMA in 2007-2008."

The BCMA Board has supported Dr. Day as the democratically elected choice of the majority of BCMA doctors since Dr. Burak announced his challenge July 11.
