BC Safety Authority Promotes Safe Digging

NEW WESTMINSTER, BC--(Marketwired - April 20, 2016) - BC Safety Authority (BCSA) is reminding homeowners and contractors to plan ahead and call or click before digging. April is "Safe Digging Month" and coincides with spring digging season.

"Hitting an underground electrical or gas line is both dangerous and expensive," says Brad Wyatt, BCSA's Gas Safety Manager. "Whatever ground-breaking activities you have planned, avoid serious safety hazards by making that call before digging. It only takes one phone call or one click online to save time, money and potentially lives."

British Columbians should contact BC One Call -- a free service that provides the location of underground lines -- before starting to dig. BC One Call can be reached at 1-800-474-6886 or dial *6886 from a cell phone. For more information, visit: www.bconecall.bc.ca.

"Gas lines, electrical wires and a network of underground services are at risk of being damaged during any type of excavation," says Wyatt. "Planning is key. All excavators and homeowners should contact BC One Call before they dig. It's free and it's easy to find out about your underground environment."
