BCLC Holiday Ads Urge Parents to Use Their 'GameSense'

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Dec. 13, 2010) - BCLC's holiday seasonal advertising and promotional campaign will launch on December 13, urging parents to use their 'GameSense' and refrain from giving lottery products such as Scratch & Win tickets to anyone under the age of 19.

The ads, which will appear in the Province newspaper, reflect BCLC's commitment to responsible gambling and support collaborative efforts of lottery jurisdictions throughout North America, the International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviors at McGill University and the National Council on Problem Gambling to raise awareness of the risks associated with youth gambling.

"It's important that parents fully understand the risks associated with underage gambling," said BCLC President & CEO, Michael Graydon. "Youth gambling can increase the potential for problem gambling later in life, so these ads are meant to challenge parents to act responsibly by not giving lottery products to anyone underage."

In addition to the advertisements BCLC will conduct promotional programming at B.C.'s casinos and online by providing background information on youth gambling and tips on how parents can have the conversation with their child.

BCLC also encourages parents to visit GameSense.ca and download free BetStopper content blocking software to help keep kids off of online gambling websites. BetStopper software is customized to block minors' access to internet gambling sites, while providing adults with password protected access.

BCLC's responsible gambling program, GameSense, is designed to assist players with making informed choices about gaming. GameSense reflects BCLC's commitment to provide gaming entertainment in a socially responsible manner in communities around B.C.

BCLC is a provincial Crown Corporation that offers socially responsible gaming entertainment while generating income that benefits all British Columbians.
