BCLC: North Van Man in 'Awe' After Jackpot Win

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Dec. 16, 2010) - A North Vancouver man is finally coming to terms with his $2 Million lottery win. Gordon Jukes matched 6/6 numbers on the December 1 BC/49 draw to win the game's top prize, but admits the win didn't register with him at first.

"I was on my lunch break with a co-worker and decided to check my ticket in the automatic ticket checking machine," explains the 40-year-old maintenance officer. "I was confused at first, because I thought I had won either two-hundred or two-thousand dollars. I looked at my co-worker, who appeared shocked, and then I realized it was actually a $2 Million win!"

Jukes says he put the ticket in his pocket, walked outside, and had an 'awe' moment.

"I was shaking when I went back to work, and wound up asking to go home early because I just couldn't concentrate. I kept reaching into my pocket to make sure the ticket was still there."

With his winner's cheque now in hand, Jukes is planning a surprise visit to family in Ontario.

"I haven't been able to spend Christmas with them for about eight years," he says. "I haven't told them about the win yet, so it's going to be a nice surprise."

Jukes' lucky BC/49 ticket was purchased at Capilano Mall in North Vancouver.

BC/49 is a BC-only lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 6 p.m. (PST) that gives players a chance to win up to $2 Million for $1. Tickets can be purchased at any BCLC lottery retailer or online at PlayNow.com.
