BCLC Staff Raise Over $13,000 for Local Christmas Charities

KAMLOOPS, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Dec. 21, 2011) - Staff at BCLC in Kamloops have wrapped up another year of fundraising to help make Christmas brighter for children and families in need.

The BCLC staff Christmas charity committee raised $13,716 for local charities through year-long fundraising efforts that included 50/50 draws, raffles, a silent auction and the ever-popular annual chili cook-off.

This year, funds will help support the Kamloops Food Bank, the Y Women's Emergency Shelter and Christmas Amalgamated.

The staff-led committee 'adopted' six families through the Y Women's Emergency Shelter and Christmas Amalgamated. The families totalled 31 people, including 24 children. On top of the funds raised, staff throughout the corporation personally purchased most of the over 200 gifts on the shopping list. Gifts included clothes, shoes, books, crafts, toys and household items. Funds raised helped pay for food hampers and gift cards for the families.

The BCLC Kamloops Christmas charity committee is made up of staff volunteers who give their own time to help make the season better for their community. It has been in place in various forms since 1985, when BCLC first established its office in Kamloops.
