bcMetals Corporation: Red Chris Environmental Assessment Certificate Approved

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 25, 2005) - bcMetals (TSX VENTURE:C) is pleased to announce that the B.C. Government has today approved the Environmental Assessment Certificate for the Red Chris Project.

The Red Chris porphyry copper-gold project will be developed and operated by Red Chris Development Company Ltd. ("RCDC"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of bcMetals. The Red Chris property is located 18 km south of Iskut in northwestern British Columbia, Canada.

The Certificate has been signed by the Hon. Richard Neufeld, Minister of Energy Mines and Petroleum Resources and the Hon. Barry Penner, Minister of Environment, following a comprehensive 11 month review of RCDC's Application, which was originally submitted on September 24, 2004. The Application was reviewed by Federal and Provincial regulatory agencies, with additional input from the Public and First Nations. The review process included a 65 day Public comment period and a two month extension to the legislated 180 day review period to specifically address issues raised by First Nations.

This brings to a close the review of RCDC's Application for an Environmental Assessment Certificate under the B.C. Environmental Assessment Act and clears the way for the issuance of the various permits and licences required to construct and operate the mine.

The Certificate includes a comprehensive list of commitments for the development, operation and closure of the Red Chris Mine made by RCDC in response to review comments made by Provincial and Federal regulatory agencies, the Public and First Nations over the course of the Environmental Assessment process.

The open pit mine has a 25 year life based on a 30,000 tonne per day milling rate with Proven and Probable Reserves of 276 Mt @ 0.349% Cu and 0.266 gpt Au containing 2.123 billion pounds of Cu and 1,187,000 ounces of Au in situ.
