BC's Certified Management Accountants Commend Government's Strategic Management Approach to 2008 Budget

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 20, 2008) - The government has continued to build on a revitalized economy while setting the stage for a sustainable, prosperous future for British Columbians.

"BC is one of the best economic engines in the country and that means more service options for the government. It also means more opportunities for British Columbians," says Mehb Jessa, Chair of the Certified Management Accountants Society of British Columbia. "The government's commitment to live within a prudent, balanced budget is attracting long-term investments into this province. They also continue to be a proactive and aggressive leader through ensuring there is a focus on all of the key issues that are relative in today's market - as well as in the future. This includes a focus on education, health care and social programs - all of which are being managed within their means. Taking a leadership role in environmental concerns is also commendable as British Columbia will be acknowledged as global leaders."

"The Government of British Columbia's strategic management approach to running the government as a business is evident," says Colin Bennett, President and CEO of CMA British Columbia. "The introduction of the carbon credit tax by limiting revenues and having funds going into environmental projects vs. general revenue supports this strategic approach. While the government continues their investments in needed infrastructure, they also continue to reduce the tax supported dept to GDP ratio."

BC's Certified Management Accountants applaud that the government has continued to run their operations through strategic management. These initiatives will help fuel innovation in British Columbia by developing talent and funding research and development in the province.
