BCS Championship Tops TicketNews' Month-End Event Rankings for December

VERNON, CT--(Marketwire - January 10, 2011) - The passing of the holiday season means one thing to avid football fans: the arrival of the bowl season. Not surprisingly, the BCS National Championship Bowl earned the No. 1 spot on TicketNews' exclusive Top Event Rankings for the end of 2010, compiled from December 1-30.

The pinnacle of NCAA Division I football will pit the number two-ranked Oregon Ducks against the number one-ranked Auburn Tigers. Interest in the BCS Championship has been exceptionally high this season, causing prices to skyrocket on the secondary market and leading to concerns about potentially busted BCS ticket orders. The 2011 BCS National Championship Game takes place January 10 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ.

Consumer interest in college football bowls was not limited to the Championship Game. The LSU Tigers faced off (and won) against the Texas A&M Aggies in the 2011 Cotton Bowl Classic. Ticket sales for the January 7 game were solid through December, leading the Cotton Bowl to a No. 10 finish in the month-end rankings.

Events to Watch for January:

  • Though the college football's bowl games dominate now, January will be the month of preliminary Super Bowl ticket sales. Expect to see a strong showing for the NFL championship, scheduled for February 6 at Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX.
  • Despite numerous delays and harsh critical responses, Broadway's beleaguered musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" has been near 100% capacity through previews. Expect ticket sales to remain just as strong leading up to the newly scheduled February 7 opening night.
  • New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys added a new round of concerts to their NKOTBSB Tour for 2011. New and continuing onsales for the tour could improve upon the tour's current No. 17 standing by the end of January.
