BC's Hipster Bait Awarded $10,000 CMPA Pitch 360 Award at Merging Media Conference

TELUS Optik TV Pitch 360 Prize Goes to Urban Safari Entertainment for KIDS' COOKHOUSE

VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - Nov 8, 2013) - The fourth annual Merging Media Conference (November 6-7) culminated today with the announcement of the Pitch 360 Competition and TELUS Optik TV Pitch 360 Prize winners. Nicole Sorochan and Michael Tension of Victoria-based One Net Labs were awarded the $10,000 CMPA Pitch 360 Award for Best Cross-Media Project, for HIPSTER BAIT, an interactive geo-caching music discovery game designed to help indie bands distribute their music outside the traditional boundaries of digital distribution and record labels. Hipster Bait was one of the twelve cross-media projects from Canada (5), France (3), Sweden (3) and the UK (1) presented to a jury of 6 international and Canadian industry leaders.

The TELUS Optik TV Pitch 360 Prize, a $5,000 production grant for TELUS community television programming was awarded to Tracey Mack and Bradley Shende of Vancouver's Urban Safari Entertainment for KIDS' COOKHOUSE. The multi-platform cooking property targeted at tweens teaches food preparation, safety and nutrition using a web-based application and interactive site, optimized for tablet and mobile use.

"The jury was impressed by the calibre and range of projects taking part in this year's Pitch 360 Competition -- they truly represent the cutting edge of global cross-media innovation," says Christine Lim-Labossiere, CEO/Founder of Merging Media Productions Inc. and Founder/Executive Director of the Merging Media Conference. "It was a difficult decision, but they selected Hipster Bait as Best Cross-Media Project for its creative approach to a music industry challenge, and integration of online platforms and offline engagement. We hope the $10,000 CMPA Pitch 360 Award will help support One Net Labs through this exciting development phase."

The Pitch 360 Competition aims to build co-production bridges between Canada and Europe. European projects were selected for their co-production potential and all projects were chosen based on innovation and creative potential; marketability and concept viability; cross media integration and international market appeal.

Pitch 360 jury included: Alison Norrington, CCO/Founder, storycentralDIGITAL and storycentralLAB (UK); Andra Sheffer, Executive Director, Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund/ Independent Production Fund (Canada); Corrie Coe, Senior Vice-President, Independent Production, Bell Media (Canada); Michael MacMillan, CEO/Co-Founder, Blue Ant Media (Canada); Michel Reilhac, Story Architect, Melange (FR); and Voyelle Acker, Deputy Director, Digital Storytelling and Transmedia, France Television (FR).
