Be More Fuel Efficient Says Swinton Insurance

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Nov. 20, 2011) - As The House of Commons debates rising fuel costs, Swinton Insurance is helping motorists by offering them some tips to drive fuel-efficient.

A survey by the motor insurance retailer found that nearly one in five motorists would like to become more fuel-efficient and save money at the pumps.

With average unleaded prices hovering around £134.5ppl and diesel prices at £139.6ppl Swinton Insurance has put together some top tips to encourage motorists to drive more efficiently.

  • Motorists should plan their routes carefully. The most efficient route will usually be the most direct one

  • Always listen to local traffic reports as being stuck in traffic will use more fuel

  • Drive smoothly and stick to speed limits. Excessive acceleration and braking will use more fuel

  • Turn off electrical equipment in the vehicle if they are not needed as these will also burn more fuel

  • Keep tyres inflated to the correct pressure as under inflated ones will use more fuel

  • Keep the car in mint condition and get it serviced regularly

Steve Chelton, Claims Manager at Swinton said: "UK fuel prices are at an all time high so it is really important for motorists to become smarter drivers in terms of fuel efficiency. Slowing down and sticking to speed limits should help drivers become more fuel efficient and it may even reduce accidents and resultant car insurance claims."
