Beaconsfield Citizens' Forum: Continuous Improvement Through Participatory and Transparent Management

BEACONSFIELD, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - June 26, 2015) - Out of a desire for greater transparency and civic participation, the City of Beaconsfield held a Citizens' Forum last week to learn how residents feel and what they think about city services.

"This is an effective way of maintaining and improving services to our constituents as part of a highly democratic framework in which people speak their minds and express their opinions," said Mayor Georges Bourelle.

Some 40 residents took part in the two-day event, moderated by City managers, on June 16 and 17. Breakout discussions covered such topics as communication and civic participation, adaptation of sports, recreational and cultural facilities, park development, yacht clubs, urban planning, protection of architectural heritage and the environment, waste management and water.

"These discussions provided rich information and will result in a host of citizen initiatives designed to improve everyone's quality of life over the short, medium and long terms. This valuable and instructive exchange of viewpoints will support Beaconsfield's strategic plan as part of continuous improvement efforts for the services we provide," said Mayor Bourelle.

"As of this fall, results of this broad-based exercise will serve to confirm issues raised by residents. The Citizens' Forum has clearly demonstrated its value to everyone. We will validate and enhance the issues selected," the Mayor said.

A report on the results of this process will be made public in the fall.
