Beaconsfield Winner of an Association quebecoise du transport et des routes (AQTR) Award of Excellence

BEACONSFIELD, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - June 19, 2014) - At the Gala des grands prix d'excellence en transport on June 18, the City of Beaconsfield was awarded the Association québécoise du transport et des routes prize, Prix Sécurité routière, for its YIELD signs project of prioritization at intersections by use of appropriate signage.

The goal of this project was to establish whether the existing intersection management mode is the best according to the regulations of the Code de signalisation routière du Québec and the Précis sur la signalisation routière au Québec. The study concluded that drivers adopt safer behavior when the intersection is equipped with a YIELD sign rather than a STOP sign. Indeed, speed measured on roads with YIELD signs at intersections was consistently lower than on streets with STOP signs at intersections. This new signage will be applied to the rest of the 73 intersections identified by the City.

"This traffic calming measure is part of Beaconsfield's continuing effort to improve safety on its roads. This prestigious award carries province wide recognition of our achievements and we are very proud of having received it. We would like to make special mention of Mr. André Gervais, Project Manager, and the Traffic Advisory Committee for their excellent work" said Mayor Georges Bourelle.

The Gala des grands prix d'excellence en transport which brings together over 200 professionals from the transport sector every year is an opportunity to highlight more than 20 projects and announce the winners in 10 categories, in addition to giving the Distinction Award and the Coup de cœur du jury d'honneur award. By publicly recognizing these efforts, the AQTr wishes to support outstanding initiatives and encourage the industry to follow suit.
