Beamreach Solar Names Dr. Stephen Shea Vice President of Manufacturing Engineering

Photovoltaic (PV) Industry Veteran Shea Will Focus on Scaling Beamreach Solar's Manufacturing Capabilities for Its Groundbreaking Solar Products

MILPITAS, CA and SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Jul 12, 2016) - (INTERSOLAR NORTH AMERICA) - Beamreach Solar today announced that Dr. Stephen Shea has joined the company as vice president of manufacturing engineering. With forty years of experience in the photovoltaic (PV) industry, Shea will focus on scaling Beamreach Solar's manufacturing capabilities in order to meet growing demand for the company's new lightweight Sprint™ solar systems, and to support the launch and commercialization of other groundbreaking Beamreach Solar products in the future.

"Having successfully moved PV technologies from the laboratory into production, designed, constructed and then expanded PV manufacturing facilities, and built and run PV manufacturing groups, Stephen possesses exactly the expertise needed to quickly scale our manufacturing operations to support large-scale production," said Mark Kerstens, CEO of Beamreach Solar. "He is an extremely valuable addition to our executive team, and I look forward to working with him to ramp up manufacturing of Sprint and our other solar products -- products that break through the barriers that have slowed the adoption of clean energy."

"Beamreach Solar's technologies enable the commercialization of solar products -- like Sprint -- that will accelerate the use of clean energy by customers around the world," said Dr. Shea. "I am excited to be responsible for developing and scaling the manufacturing infrastructure and team that will allow for large-scale commercialization of these products -- products that will allow customers to easily, unobtrusively and cost-effectively generate clean energy practically anywhere."

An expert in all aspects of PV product design and manufacturing, before joining Beamreach Solar, Shea was vice president and chief engineering officer at Suniva, where he was responsible for the design and construction of the firm's first manufacturing facility, the creation and management of the company's manufacturing organization, two facility manufacturing expansions and three transfers of new technology from laboratory to manufacturing. His work experience also includes four years as an industry consultant, including six months as visiting senior solar energy technologist at Xerox PARC, and twenty years with Solarex/BP Solar in various roles in research and development, engineering and technology management. He is the author of over twenty publications on PV technology and several PV patents. He began his career conducting thin film PV research at the University of Delaware where he received a Ph.D. in Applied Science (EE) and an M.E.E. He also holds both a B.S. and a B.A. from Swarthmore College.

Beamreach Solar recently named Mark Kerstens CEO, unveiled its new brand and introduced its Sprint™ lightweight photovoltaic (PV) solar panel system for flat commercial roofs. Sprint's light weight allows it to be installed on millions of commercial roofs that cannot currently support heavy conventional solar systems, dramatically expanding the market for commercial solar power systems. In addition, Sprint's high power capacity, ultra-fast install process, and other unique features provide commercial customers with a better return on investment and a lower cost of electricity than conventional solar power systems.

Beamreach Solar will be exhibiting Sprint at Intersolar North America this week at booth 7111. It will also be at Solar Power International (SPI) on September 12-15 and at other trade shows and conferences over the coming months.
