Beautiful Breasts After Mastectomy: One-Stage Breast Reconstruction Technique Provides Mastectomy Patients With Immediate, Natural Results

BEVERLY HILLS, CA--(Marketwired - Oct 1, 2014) - Breast reconstruction isn't disfiguring anymore, thanks to Dr. Lisa Cassileth's technique. Dr. Cassileth, board-certified plastic surgeon and Chief of Plastic Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, creates reconstructed breasts that look beautiful and natural.

"Women and their doctors should not accept mediocre reconstruction results when excellent cosmetic results are possible in almost every case."
 - Dr. Lisa Cassileth

Traditional Breast Reconstruction:
Traditionally, breast reconstruction with implants requires two surgeries: first, during the mastectomy a tissue expander is inserted. After several months of injections to inflate the expander and stretch the chest muscle, the breast implant is inserted in a second surgery. This often leaves patients with disfigured breasts and large, ugly scars.

Dr. Cassileth's One-Stage Breast Reconstruction Procedure:
In Dr. Cassileth's innovative technique (published in the August 2012 Annals of Plastic Surgery), breasts are reconstructed at the time of mastectomy in minimal-scar surgery, allowing women to wake up from mastectomy surgery with intact, beautiful breasts. This technique lowers overall risk, decreases cost, and minimizes pain.

"I cannot emphasize enough how passionately I feel about breast reconstruction after mastectomy. When women are diagnosed with breast cancer, they are focused on their survival, their children, and their families. They often have to make quick decisions about their treatment and feel that it's selfish to think about the post-cancer appearance of their breasts. I want all women diagnosed with breast cancer to know that there are surgical options with superior, cosmetic results.

"Women should be encouraged by their doctors to explore all reconstruction options to ensure that they get a result that is not just effective, but beautiful as well, because how you feel about your breasts affects your self-confidence and your happiness."
