Beeline Implements Data Security Enhancements to Improve Client Protection

JACKSONVILLE, FL--(Marketwired - April 21, 2015) - Beeline, a global leader in software solutions for managing the extended workforce, announced today that its two European data centers, whose groundbreaking took place in 2014, is live with several new Fortune 500 and Global 1000 clients. These clients report high levels of satisfaction after Beeline successfully implemented a suite of new data security enhancements as further commitment to being the best Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution for international companies.

Beeline's European operations and data centers adhere to the legal and compliance regulations set forth by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA), a government body responsible for financial regulation. Unlike solutions which use data centers located in multiple European countries, Beeline's European data centers are located only in Switzerland. Jason Creson, Beeline's Vice president, Technical Operations, explains, "These data centers are connected via a private fiber network that does not leave Switzerland and is hosted completely by our Swiss provider at their FINMA compliant data centers."

Consistently listed as one of the top countries for secure data storage, Switzerland has a long tradition of offering neutrality and providing quality. According to Jean-Philippe Walter, Switzerland's Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner, "It is in Switzerland's interest to offer clients a higher degree of protection than in other European countries." Switzerland's restrictive laws protect personal data from governmental authorities and the country has a long-held policy of permanent neutrality and a solid reputation for security and privacy. The physical setting of these two data centers provides additional security and peace of mind for clients, with one data center housed in an underground bunker, while another is highly protected on top of a hill.

Data centers only offer physical protection of data, so to better address all aspects of security, Beeline recently implemented additional layers of protection by deploying Akamai's Kona Site Defender to block attacks. According to Akamai, "Kona Site Defender defends against all types of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS), web applications, and direct-to-origin attacks -- and our optional Akamai Fast Domain Name System (DNS) solution mitigates attacks on DNS infrastructure." Beeline sees great value in using Kona Site Defender, which detects and deflects threats in HTTP and HTTPS traffic before they ever reach the customer origin. Kona's Site Shield feature also includes the ability to cloak (or hide) a customer origin from the public Internet, essentially making clients invisible on the Internet. "Security is a concern for everyone," said Creson, "and this solution allows us to respond quickly to vulnerabilities and 'zero-day threats' on a 24/7 basis."

Beeline now also has the ability to store client data in compliance with Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 encryption. FIPS 140-2 describes the encryption methodology used to accredit cryptographic modules. In essence, if an outside source somehow obtained a client's data, the encryption would render that data useless to the perpetrator. "We felt it was a priority for Beeline to be able to offer customers in more sensitive environments the option to use encrypted high-speed storage systems," said Creson, "as this removes much of the worry around the physical protection of data in addition to the logical and regulatory controls already in place at Beeline."
