Being a Good Citizen has its Rewards, Youth in Action™ Offering $20,000 in Scholarships for Local Area Students

NEW WESTMINSTER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Feb. 1, 2007) - Westminster Savings Credit Union's (WSCU) Youth in Action Awards program is offering $20,000 in scholarships to community youth members this year. Ten $2,000 awards will be offered to graduating high school students in the TriCities, Ridge Meadows, New Westminster, Surrey/White Rock, and Langley areas.

Criteria for the awards include involvement in extra-curricular volunteer activities, including a demonstrated commitment during the student's senior year and a high level of academic achievement. The awards program reflects Westminster Savings Credit Union's ongoing commitment to education, and honours youth who go the extra distance towards making the world a better place to live in.

"Youth are the key to success in our communities," says Barry Forbes, President and CEO, Westminster Savings Credit Union. "By volunteering and committing their time to local groups, they are helping shape the framework for a prosperous future, not only for themselves but also for those around them. Westminster Savings is dedicated to helping young people thrive and grow in their communities and our Youth in Action Awards honour that commitment."

The deadline for Youth in Action Award submissions is April 2, 2007, and the winners will be announced at their respective graduating ceremonies. Youth in Action Awards brochures and application forms are available at all branches of Westminster Savings Credit Union, at local high schools and online at www.wscu.com under "In Our Community".
