Bell Sensplex Partners With Sens Foundation in Support of CHEO

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 24, 2009) - In conjunction with the Sens Foundation and Team 1200 Sports Radio, the Bell Sensplex is pleased to announce that it will host the fifth annual Molson Canadian Cup, in support of the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario's (CHEO) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), from March 27 to 29.

The Molson Canadian Cup is widely recognized as the premier adult recreational hockey tournament in Ottawa. Each year, the tournament attracts more than 50 teams and 750 players and has an extensive waiting list for participation. This year, a $275 donation is required for all entries to guarantee a spot in the tournament. Charitable tax receipts are being provided.

For the first time in the tournament's history, one 100 per cent of the tournament's net proceeds will be directed to the Sens Foundation. The Sens Foundation will then match the amount before making a larger donation to the NICU at CHEO. To date, more than $14,000 has been raised in support of this cause. A number of sponsorship opportunities and team entries are still available for this year's tournament, with the expectation of reaching a $20,000 donation goal.

"We have been overwhelmed with the positive response to this year's fundraising efforts," said Andy Bryan, programs manager of the Bell Sensplex. "It is the participating players who have said 'yes' to supporting such a worthwhile cause. It is also a testament to the demand for professionally run adult hockey tournaments in this community and to the desire of those participating to contribute while enjoying all that this tournament has to offer, both on and off the ice."

The NICU at CHEO is a 20-bed unit that provides specialized care for critically ill newborn infants. Each year up to 350 infants and their families receive these services.
