Bell Sensplex Set to Host 5th Annual Molson Canadian Cup in Support of CHEO

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 25, 2009) - In conjunction with the Sens Foundation and Team 1200 Sports Radio, the Bell Sensplex is preparing to host the fifth annual Molson Canadian Cup, in support of the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario's (CHEO) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), this coming weekend.

The Molson Canadian Cup is widely recognized as the premier adult recreational hockey tournament in Ottawa. This year, the tournament will welcome 47 teams (approximately 700 players) and has already raised $10,175 through entry fee donations.

For the first time in the tournament's history, 100 per cent of the tournament's net proceeds will be directed to the Sens Foundation. The Sens Foundation will then match the amount (for a current total of $20,350) before making a larger donation to the NICU at CHEO.

A cheque presentation, featuring tournament representatives and Fred Bartlett, the president and CEO of the CHEO Foundation, will take place in Stanley's restaurant at the Sensplex at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Saturday evening.

With games running Friday through Sunday (when the eight division champions will be crowned), entry to the public is free but donations in support of the NICU at CHEO will be accepted. A ceremonial face off will take place on Friday at 4:40 p.m. in Bell Sensplex's Mattamy Homes Arena, where a former NICU patient and members of her family will be on hand to help start the tournament. The weekend's tournament schedule can be found online at

The NICU at CHEO is a 20-bed unit that provides specialized care for critically ill newborn infants. Each year up to 350 infants and their families receive these services.
