Bell Sensplex to Host 4th Annual Molson Canadian Cup Hockey Tournament

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 27, 2008) - The Bell Sensplex is pleased to announce it will host 52 teams and more than 700 players in eight divisions in the 4th annual Molson Canadian Cup adult recreation tournament from Friday, March 28, to Sunday, March 30. The first game is Friday at 2:15 p.m. and wraps up Sunday at 4:30 p.m. with the 19+ A division final.

The Molson Canadian Cup, presented by Sports Radio Team 1200 and Ridgegold Media, features divisions for players 19 years of age and older, and over 35. As with the first three years, teams include Canadian and American college players; current and former major junior and junior A players, as well as ex-professionals.

"Outside of the obvious best hockey in town with the Ottawa Senators, Ottawa 67's and Gatineau Olympiques, this year's Molson Canadian Cup will showcase the best adult hockey in the region," said Andy Bryan, programs manager for the Bell Sensplex. "The quality of the tournament and level of play has made this tournament what it is today, one where we now have a waiting list of teams hoping to participate."

Molson Canadian Cup tournament highlights include:

- Each team is guaranteed three games and can play up to five.

- Off-ice activities will see the Niagara region band The Spinz play on Friday and Saturday at Philthy McNasty's Kanata and the Bell Sensplex's Stanley's Restaurant & Bar, respectively.

- Prizes will be awarded for the each division champion.

- Teams are coming primarily from Ontario, Quebec and as far away as Iqualuit.

The premier competitive division, 19+ A, features the following six teams:

- Wolfpack: The lineup is made up of most of the recent Carleton Ravens university squad, including former Ottawa 67's Brody Beard and Brady Morrison. The Ravens' 2007-08 leading scorer and former Ontario Hockey League Windsor Spitfire Jared Cipperone, and CIS teammate and former Sault Ste Marie Greyhound Brad Good are also on the team.

- G.O.A.T.: The roster features former junior A, major junior, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and pro players. Former Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Scott Heffernan and American Hockey League alumnus Adam Dewan are joined by Marc Lefebvre (Ottawa 67's graduate and current European pro), Nathan Tennant (Kingston Frontenacs and Plymouth Whalers grad), and John Ostapyk (former NCAA player and currently head hockey instructor for the Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs).

- Centennials: This team also features junior A, major junior and NCAA graduates. Former Ottawa 67's star defenceman and current European pro Jonathan Zion, NCAA standout Kyle Gourgon, and former OHLers Mike Moher and Clay McFadden.

- Warrior/MIA: This Montreal-area based squad is made up of former players from the AHL, East Coast Hockey League and Quebec Professional Hockey League. They recently competed in the Belarus President's Cup hockey tournament in Minsk, Belarus.

- Thirsty Mule Squad: This team is a mixture of Ottawa-area players who played pro, major junior, and junior A and B.

- Pastime Motors: The line-up features Lower St Lawrence area alumni from regional junior A and B teams.
