Bell Sensplex to host Central League Holiday Showcase Weekend from Dec. 17 to Dec. 19

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 1, 2010) - In partnership with the Central (tier 1 junior A) Hockey League, Senators Sports & Entertainment will host the fifth annual CHL Holiday Showcase from Dec. 17 to 19 at the Bell Sensplex. The 2010 showcase will mark the first time the event has been hosted at the Bell Sensplex and sees each CHL team play two games at the venue over the course of the weekend. Each game result counts towards the CHL standings.

The Central League Holiday Showcase will run alongside the seventh annual Ottawa Senators Novice Holiday Classic, which takes place at the Bell Sensplex beginning on Friday, Dec. 17. Presented by the Kanata and West Carleton minor hockey associations, the region's largest novice tournament will welcome 60 teams comprised of seven- and eight-year old players from Ontario and Quebec. In an effort to expose young players to junior hockey, each player will receive a ticket to one of the Holiday Showcase games.

"In addition to the annual novice tournament, we're excited to be able to help bring the CHL into the spotlight for a few days to begin the holiday season," said Cyril Leeder, Ottawa Senators president. "The CHL has graduated several current and former Senators, including general manager Bryan Murray, Matt Carkner, Jesse Winchester, Todd White and Jason York. For young players at the novice tournament and hockey fans alike, we are very fortunate to have this calibre of hockey right here in Hockey Country."

"The CHL is excited to add this important event to the already significant partnership with the Senators' organization and the Bell Sensplex," said Central League commissioner Kevin Abrams. "The addition of the Holiday Showcase and the opportunity to join an already successful weekend of minor hockey will make the event a memorable one for players, families and fans and serve as a great kick off to the holiday season."

Daily and weekend passes are currently on sale and can be purchased at the Bell Sensplex. Due to limited seating, advance purchase is recommended. The Holiday Showcase begins on Friday with a game at 4:45 p.m. and will conclude with a 4:05 p.m. contest on Sunday afternoon. Carkner and Winchester will conduct a ceremonial faceoff prior to the 7:45 p.m. game between Nepean and Smiths Falls on Saturday. The Holiday Showcase schedule can be found online at
