Belmont Dentist Saves Child's Tooth Through Re-Implantation

SAN CARLOS, CA--(Marketwired - July 28, 2015) - Ghina Morad, a Belmont family dentist, recently re-implanted a knocked-out tooth that had been lost from a 9-year-old child’s mouth.

Dr. Morad specializes in being a comprehensive dentist and was able to repair the damage completely. The child lost the tooth during a fall at a school event. The child’s parents called Dr. Morad, who was willing to come into the office at night and re-implant the child’s tooth.

When an adult tooth is knocked out, it must be re-implanted within the first 30 minutes. If the patient cannot reach a dentist in time, the tooth will become a total loss. Dr. Morad said adult teeth that are lost should be replaced with a permanent restoration, like a dental implant.

“The tooth is expected to be a normal tooth forever,” Dr. Morad said. “This could have been a future implant if the patient didn’t have the tooth re-implanted immediately.”

The young girl and her parents took the right steps during this dental emergency. They collected the lost tooth and kept it moist. They then called Dr. Morad and made their way to Dr. Morad Aesthetic and Family Dentistry, where she was able to place the tooth back in the child’s mouth and suture the gums in place for a complete repair. Many knocked-out adult teeth are a permanent loss, but in this case, the child’s smile is intact.

“The tooth is doing fine after the one-month check up,” Dr. Morad said. “The prognosis is very good.”

Dr. Morad purchased her practice in 2003. She offers preventive dentistry, restorative dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics and TMJ treatment. Her individual services include cleanings, dental sealants, metal-free fillings, onlays, crowns, bridges, teeth-whitening treatment, veneers, root canals, implant restoration, traditional braces, Invisalign and ClearCorrect. Dr. Morad offers both headgear splints and Botox treatment for patients with TMD. The Botox injections are used to relieve jaw tension that causes joint issues.

Dr. Morad graduated first in her class from Boston University, earning membership into the prestigious National Dental Honor Society. She began practicing dentistry in 1996 and worked in the Bay Area before starting her own practice. She also taught as a clinical instructor at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. She has completed courses in veneer design and preparation, orthodontics, digital smile design and advanced specialized dental-facial orthodontics.

Dr. Morad uses digital X-rays for instant results and clearer images, digital intraoral cameras, and the DIAGNOdent laser cavity detector. She also provides oral conscious sedation.
