Bentley Prince Street Receives New SCS Sustainable Choice(TM) Product Certifications and Launches Innovative Environmental Backing Line

CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 13, 2006 -- Ewire -- In another milestone in its continual commitment to sustainable products and processes, Bentley Prince Street announced today that all of its standard broadloom and carpet tile products have achieved Scientific Certification Systems' (SCS) Sustainable Choice Gold/Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) certification under the new Sustainable Carpet Assessment Draft Standard, NSF-140. This new draft standard for sustainable carpet replaces the previous EPP standard, to which all of Bentley Prince Street's standard products were certified.

In addition, all of the company's standard broadloom products are certified to the stringent "California Gold" standard required for State of California carpet purchases. Also achieving California Gold certification are broadloom products using the optional Prestige PlusRC™ backing and carpet tile products using EncoreRC® backing, optional on all tile products. The California Gold criteria is more proscriptive than the Sustainable Choice Gold, including:

-- Carpet must contain at least 10% post consumer content
-- Carpet must meet the Carpet and Rug Institute's Green Label Plus™
    requirements for indoor air quality
-- Carpet must meet the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) recycling
    goals
-- Carpet must not contain PBDE Flame Retardants
-- Manufacturer must have completed a life cycle assessment process for
    the product category

The company also announced the introduction of a new standard backing line for its broadloom products, High PerformancePC, which contains post-consumer recycled content from a sustainable derivative of the global paper recycling industry. In the first application of this innovative new technology in the carpet industry, mineral residuals are recovered from the recycled waste paper process and incorporated into carpet backing. This unique recovery process is environmentally friendly and the recovered mineral composites are post consumer.

"Our goal has always been to design and manufacture products that were both beautiful and environmentally sustainable. Receiving Sustainable Choice Gold and California Gold certifications for our products is a significant milestone for our company and an important step in our journey to sustainability," said Anthony Minite, president of Bentley Prince Street. "We hope this objective third-party certification will both help and encourage the marketplace to identify and choose products that protect our planet's natural resources. We encourage everyone to ask for the SCS Sustainable Choice certification logo when they're specifying and choosing carpet products."
