Northern Michigan's Best Place for Outdoor Beauty and Relaxed Small Town Charm

BENZONIA, MI--(Marketwired - May 15, 2013) - Art festivals and outdoor recreational events highlight the 2013 spring and summer season in Benzie County, Michigan. Benzie County is located along the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which was voted the "Most Beautiful Place in America" by viewers of ABC's "Good Morning America."

Arts events include the Frankfort Craft Fair and Antique Vehicle / Muscle Car show in June and The Talents and Techniques of Roland Roycraft Exhibition in June and July. Other arts and crafts fairs will take place throughout the summer in the quaint towns of Elberta, Beulah, Frankfort and Benzonia. To complement these events, art galleries and antique markets are located throughout Benzie County for both casual and serious art and antique collectors.

Outdoor Recreational events in Benzie County include:

  • The June Michigan PGA Women's Open Championship at Crystal Mountain, a national award-winning premiere golf resort; 
  • The Battle at the Betsie Fishing Tournament in June on the Betsie Bay and the annual Lake Michigan deep-water charter-fishing event -- the Benzie Fishing Frenzy in August;
  • Events for 5k runners and walkers including the Fire Cracker Race on July 4th in Beulah and the Port City Run on July 20th in Frankfort; and
  • The Bike Benzie Tour at Crystal Mountain on August 18 offering a scenic ride through beautiful Benzie County and a choice of five different distance races from 17 miles to 100 miles.

And for those who love craft beer, the Michigan Beer and Brat Festival takes place on May 25 at Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville.

To make a visit to this beautiful place even more enticing, Benzie County is offering a special promotion from May 24 through October 31, 2013 called "Passport to Fun" giving visitors a chance to see and experience many things that are offered within the county. Visitors who sign up for the promotion online at, and stay at one of the participating lodging locations for two consecutive nights or more, will receive approximately $175 worth of free activities and food from restaurants and shops all around the county.
