Berkeley Research Group Expands London Office

EMERYVILLE, CA--(Marketwire - Sep 13, 2011) - Global expert services and consulting firm Berkeley Research Group has expanded its London office with the addition of directors Paul Rowe and Mark Schankerman, who join director Peter Grindley to provide expertise in competition policy, intellectual property, telecommunications, energy, and other areas.

"The addition of Paul and Mark is an important step in enhancing our ability to offer exceptional talent and experience to clients in the UK and throughout Europe," said David J. Teece, BRG Chairman and Principal Executive Officer.

Paul Rowe has 25 years of experience as an economic consultant, much of it as a partner in the economic and financial consulting practices of major accounting firms. He specializes in competition policy, with experience in all types of UK and European competition cases. He has worked most extensively on market-wide investigation and anti-competitive practice cases, across a wide range of sectors. He has led teams working on matters being investigated by, among others, the UK competition authorities, the European Commission, industry regulators, and UK Courts/Tribunals -- including serving as an expert witness.

Mark Schankerman is a Professor in Economics at the London School of Economics, Research Associate at the Centre for Economic Performance, and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, formerly taught at New York University, and was a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research for 10 years. He served as Director of Policy Research and Advisor to the Chief Economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He also worked at the World Bank and has extensive consultancy experience in the private and public sectors. He has contributed extensively to the literature on patents, R&D, productivity and the economics of emerging economies. He is a member of the Expert Panel advising the Hargreaves Review of Intellectual Property and Growth, commissioned by the UK Government.

Peter Grindley has broad experience in economic consulting in both litigation and non-litigation environments in the areas of intellectual property and licensing, standards, competition policy and finance and damages, as well as in more general government policy. He has particular interests in the electronics, computing, telecommunications and energy industries. His consulting work has included major international and U.S.-based cases as well as UK and other European-based proceedings. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the London School of Economics, an MBA from Stanford University, and a BA in electrical engineering from the University of Cambridge, UK.
