Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo to Distribute Bid Opportunities Using

BERMUDA--(Marketwired - May 03, 2016) -  The Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo ("BAMZ") announced it has joined the Vendor Centric Purchasing Platform and will be distributing all upcoming bid opportunities through BidNet's Vendor Centric Purchasing Platform connects participating zoos and aquariums from across the country to an increasing vendor database and streamlines the bid and vendor management process for the buying organization.

BAMZ joined the platform in April 2016. The Vendor Centric Purchasing Platform expands the zoo's vendor pool and enhances vendor competition with a vendor database shared among other participating zoos and aquariums. BAMZ encourages all vendors interested in doing business with them and any other participating zoo or aquarium to register online today.

"One of the reasons that we joined the platform was to increase our access to qualified vendors through the shared vendor database. Our purchasing department looks forward to taking advantage of all the benefits of using the Purchasing Platform, and our valued vendors can now easily respond to our bids and quotes along with those posted by other participating zoos and aquariums," said Roma Hayward, Animal Care and Quarantine Officer.

Registered vendors can gain access to bids and quotes along with all related information from all participating zoos and aquariums. In addition, the purchasing platform offers value-added services for vendors to advertise their products & services through a promotional profile, list multi-office location listings, and receive matched bid opportunities from BAMZ and all other participating zoos and aquariums.

The Vendor Centric Purchasing Platform also provides the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo with a powerful e-Sourcing technology to simplify the purchasing process by streamlining bid management, bid distribution, vendor relations and overall procurement tracking. "By joining the purchasing platform, we will have better control and visibility over our entire purchasing process," states Hayward. The core purchasing platform is currently being offered at no cost to eligible zoos and aquarium organizations through AZA Smart Source and BidNet.

About the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo:
BAMZ was founded in 1926 and is one of the world's oldest aquariums. Situated in picturesque Flatts Village, our seven-acre facility remains a top attraction for all ages-and an important centre for science education, research and species conservation. BAMZ has been accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) since 1994.

The Aquarium showcases more than 200 species of fish and delicate marine invertebrates from our shallow coastal waters, spectacular northern coral reefs, and the deep ocean. The spectacular 140,000-gallon North Rock Exhibit showcases live corals and large predatory fish, including sharks and a black grouper. Exhibits housing marine turtles-some of them rescued after injury-and harbour seals are two other very popular areas and provide for captive management and research initiatives.

The Zoo displays over 300 birds, reptiles and mammals from oceanic islands in lush, naturalistic exhibits with coastal walkaways and beautiful water vistas. An emphasis on conservation and environmental education forms the focus of our Zoo facility. Many animals in the collection belong to Species Survival Plans (SSP), AZA's captive-breeding programs for endangered creatures, some of which are reintroduced to the wild. The fragile nature of island ecosystems is a key theme in the Caribbean, Australasia and Madagascar Exhibits, which all have free-flight immersion areas that allow visitors to see animals as they would in nature.

Located between the Aquarium & Zoo, the Bermuda Natural History Museum contains interactive and audio-visual exhibits that provide an insight into Bermuda's geological formation, its habitats and the impact of human life on a small island environment.
