Bernoldi Takes Top Step for First Time at Circuit of the Americas

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwired - September 19, 2015) - Enrique Bernoldi captured his first win of the season in Round 8 of Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

Bernoldi claimed the victory under caution in the No. 1 Prestige Performance Huracán representing Lamborghini Paramus. Madison Snow finished second in the No. 14 BAD Lambo Racing entry representing Lamborghini La Jolla.

"I'm excited for my team," Bernoldi said. "We had good potential during the season, but we had very bad misfortune and some mistakes outside the racetrack and also with myself. At the beginning of the race, I was trying to save my tires. And after the pit stop, I was able to pull a gap, and I was able to stretch."

Corey Lewis rounded out the overall podium with a third-place finish in the No. 29 Change Racing entry representing Lamborghini Carolinas. He was also the first Pro-Am finisher.

Change Racing teammate Justin Marks finished fourth in the No. 99 Huracán representing Lamborghini Carolinas. Angel Benitez Jr. and Martin Fuentes rounded out the top five overall finishers in the No. 26 Avid MotorSports entry representing Lamborghini Miami.

Bernoldi started in third position behind Cedric Sbirrazzuoli and Edoardo Piscopo. At the drop of the green flag, Bernoldi and Piscopo split Sbirrazzuoli, with Bernoldi on the inside. He and Piscopo drag-raced through Turn 1 and 2, with Piscopo getting the slight edge. Bernoldi settled into second and started laying down consistent laps.

At the mandatory pit stop, Piscopo handed the No. 50 O'Gara Motorsport Huracán to Antinucci. Antinucci had a delay in leaving the pit box, causing them to lose valuable time and the lead they had built through the first 20 minutes. Bernoldi took advantage of the misfortune and claimed the lead.

Over the next 30 minutes, Bernoldi built a leading gap as large as 7.438 seconds. With five minutes to go in the 50-minute race, Bryan Hixon spun in the No. 23 Mitchum Motorsports Gallardo and made contact with the wall in Turn 3, bringing out a full-course yellow that ended the race.

Sbirrazzuoli and his co-driver, Lawrence DeGeorge, claimed their second podium of the weekend with a second-place Pro-Am finish in the No. 07 STR entry representing Lamborghini Dallas.

Ryan Ockey claimed his second Huracán Amateur finish of the weekend in the No. 89 O'Gara Motorsports entry representing Lamborghini Vancouver. He beat teammate and brother Damon Ockey, who finished second in the No. 09 Huracán LP 620-2 representing Lamborghini Calgary.

Father-and-son duo Jim and Josh Norman rounded out the Amateur podium with a third-place finish in the No. 71 BAD Lambo Racing entry representing Lamborghini Palm Beach.

In the Gallardo class, Dylan Murcott once again ran away with first place in the No. 84 Mitchum Motorsports entry. His teammate, Brandon Gdovic, finished second and was the top Gallardo Amateur finisher.

Peter Argetsinger and Josh Hurley finished third on the overall Gallardo podium in the No. 76 Musante-Courtney Racing entry representing Lamborghini Miami.

Todd Snyder was the second-place Gallardo Amateur finisher in the No. 42 Mitchum Motorsports entry, and Joe Chan and Paul Taylor earned their second podium of the weekend with a third-place finish in the No. 22 Paragon Competition Gallardo representing Lamborghini Toronto.

The two rounds at Circuit of the Americas were a prelude to two races for Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe Sept. 18-20 at Nürburgring Grand Prix Circuit in Germany.

A 60-minute show with highlights from both rounds will be televised from 9-10 p.m. (ET) Wednesday, Oct. 7 on CBS Sports Network.

ENRIQUE BERNOLDI (No. 1 Lamborghini Paramus, winner): "I'm excited for my team. We had good potential during the season, but we had very bad misfortune and some mistakes outside the racetrack and also with myself. I'm happy that we won. I'm happy that we did this good race, and hopefully we can build from that. It's my first race alone. Always I was together with Kevin (Conway), and I don't know what's going to happen in the future. But at least I took my chance. I did it." (About the start): "I did a very good start. I was on the inside, and I could pass almost both of them from third place. But (Edoardo) Piscopo was on the outside, and he got better traction than me on the exit. For me to be ahead of him, I would have to touch him, and I race hard but not dirty. So he pulled away from me. At the beginning of the race, I was trying to save my tires because yesterday it was very hot, and the tires degrade a lot. So I tried to save my tires at the beginning. And after the pit stop, I was able to pull a gap, and I was able to stretch. They were not there anymore."

MADISON SNOW (No. 14 Lamborghini La Jolla, second): "It was better than yesterday. We got the car pretty good for yesterday's race but made improvements. It was easier to race, easier to drive fast. At the start of the race, I was just trying to catch up, but I was running fourth for a while. We came in for the pit stop and had the perfect time coming out, so I gained a couple of positions there, and then I just kept on going, trying to catch first. I had some issues with lapped traffic. It's fun to get through them, but it holds you up sometimes. Some were good; some weren't so good. And I ended up finishing second. If it had gone back green, we could have had our shootout and seen who had got it. If it was just green until the end, then he (Enrique Bernoldi) probably still would have still had it."

COREY LEWIS (No. 29 Lamborghini Carolinas, third, first Pro-Am): "Overall, it was a fantastic race for the whole team. Change Racing did an amazing job prepping the car for me. In the beginning of the race, it was kind of hectic. I got pushed back maybe three or four positions. The key thing was to keep calm, keep your endurance because it was going to be a long race. The heat usually gets to everybody toward the end. I just kept cool, picked them off one at a time. It was a great battle with the Avid MotorSports team, heck of a battle with them. Unfortunately, they got a drive-through penalty. But fortunately for us, it worked out. We did a great job on the pit stops, getting out just a little bit earlier in front of them. But overall, it's great for the points. I can't thank Monster Energy Drink, Lamborghini Carolinas for absolutely everything. We just keep pushing, getting these points and on to Road Atlanta."

CEDRIC SBIRRAZZUOLI (No. 07 Lamborghini Dallas, second Pro-Am): "It was good to start on pole. Unfortunately, I didn't have a good start. When I went on the gas, I didn't have power. So I don't know if I was in the wrong gear or what. Anyways, I lost a few positions at the start. Then I was struggling a little bit with braking issues. But the result was good. It was a good race. Larry (DeGeorge) did a good job today. It's a shame we were just fighting for second position because first position for now is difficult to reach considering there is no Am (Amateur driver) in the car, so that's a little bit of a shame. But we'll be back in Atlanta."

ANGEL BENITEZ JR. (No. 26 Lamborghini Miami, second Pro-Am): "The race today was much cooler today so it was much easier to deal with. We started P6 and we had such bad luck on the driver change. We did everything perfect and went under predicting our timing would be right. We were under the limit and it ended up costing us 14 seconds after a drive through penalty. After that it was just running and dealing with traffic. The goal was to keep my place and bring the car home in one piece. We're happy to be here and the team did an awesome job. Thanks to Avid, Lamborghini and all the people that make it possible."

MARTIN FUENTES (No. 26 Lamborghini Miami, second Pro-Am): "The race went good if you take out the penalty we had in pit lane. The team did a great job. Avid Motorsports put out a great car. Being the first time in a Lamborghini I feel really good. We made some changes from yesterday and we had the pace to be top three overall today but things just didn't go our way."

RYAN OCKEY (No. 89 Lamborghini Vancouver, first Amateur): (About different conditions than Thursday evening): "There was a lot more grip. It was much cooler. You didn't have the sun to deal with in your eyes. You were able to go about a second, second and a half quicker than yesterday. Today Damon (Ockey) had the pace. I think he would have had me if it wasn't for his spin."

DAMON OCKEY (No. 09 Lamborghini Calgary, second Amateur): "I was driving really well at the beginning. Put down a quick lap -- 2:09.9. I kept a pretty good gap. I got into some traffic after the pit stop, and I must have braked too late and spun the car. Stalled it and came back out in second, and that's how it ended."

JOSH NORMAN (No. 71 Lamborghini Palm Beach, third Amateur): "Our crew worked really hard to get our car prepared for today, and our setup was overall much better than yesterday. Much more consistent and easy-to-drive car. So we were able to do consistent laps and drive our race, but we qualified poorly due to issues in qualifying. We just had to work with what we had. We had a third-place car, and we got third place. So I guess we're happy with that."

JIM NORMAN (No. 71 Lamborghini Palm Beach, third Amateur): "The car is much better. The team keeps making small changes, a few more and a few more. Now the car is pretty doggone gone. We had a great race. Very competitive, and it was really a joy to be out here this weekend."

DYLAN MURCOTT (No. 84 Lamborghini, first Gallardo): "This is definitely the next step to clinching the championship early. It was a great race. I got a good start, and I just maintained the gap again. And the car ran perfect all weekend. I'm hoping to wrap it up early at Road Atlanta in two weeks."
