Berry Named One of Hawaii's Best Places to Work

Company Recognized for Best Practices, Commitment to Employees and Community

HONOLULU, HI--(Marketwire - March 22, 2010) -  The Berry Company, a leading local search services provider for small and medium-sized business and publisher of the Hawaiian Telcom Yellow Pages, was named one of the 2010 Best Places to Work in Hawaii. Best Companies Group, an independent research organization, gathers and analyzes company data to compile a list of the top 60 companies in the state. The list of "Best Places to Work" is published annually by Hawaii Business magazine and sponsored by ProService Hawaii.

"We pride ourselves on our hard work, dedication and commitment to meeting the needs of local business clients," said Scott Szczekocki, division manager for Berry. "What makes this award so special is that our employees take ownership for creating a productive, positive team environment. Our team -- the best team in Hawaii, in my view -- has really earned this special recognition."

Over the past 18 months, Berry has transformed its business to accommodate the evolving needs of its business customers, directly supporting Hawaii's economy in the process. "Our goal is to ensure that our local business customers are generating local leads from the multiple sources and platforms that today's consumers use," Szczekocki explained.

Berry now advises on and provides a full portfolio of local search solutions, including web sites, search engine marketing and optimization and video, in addition to print and Internet directory advertising.

The Best Places to Work in Hawaii survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Hawaii, while benefiting the state's economy, workforce and businesses.

To qualify for the award, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be a for-profit business, not-for-profit business or government entity
  • Have a facility in the state of Hawaii
  • Have a minimum of 25 employees working in Hawaii
  • Be in business a minimum of one year

Participating companies also had to enter a two-part survey process. The first part evaluated each participating company's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration, survey and analysis process and determined the final rankings.

The Best Places to Work in Hawaii list is made up of a total of 60 companies, split into three groups: 25 small companies (25-49 employees), 18 medium companies (50-149 employees) and 17 large companies (150 or more employees). Hawaiian Telcom Yellow Pages has been named one of the Best Places to Work in Hawaii in the medium category.
