Best March for GM Canada in Five Years; Sales Increase 17 Per Cent in March 2016

OSHAWA, ON--(Marketwired - April 01, 2016) -

  • GM Canada's total sales increased 18 per cent in the first quarter
  • GM's estimated total share for the quarter is up 0.8 percentage points
  • GM Canada's retail sales increased 16 per cent in the first quarter

Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealers delivered 24,498 vehicles in March 2016, an increase of 17 per cent versus March 2015. GM's retail sales increased 12 per cent for the month.

John Roth, vice president, sales, service and marketing for GM Canada, said, "Sales in the first quarter of 2016 are up 18 per cent, building momentum into one of the biggest launch years for GM Canada. This year, Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac are launching nine cars, trucks and crossovers offering customers more connectivity and choice, including 4G LTE, to meet their needs."

Redesigned vehicles launching in 2016 include the Chevrolet Cruze, Volt, Camaro, Malibu and Trax. At the same time, Buick is expanding its portfolio with the Envision crossover, GMC is launching an all-new Acadia crossover, and Cadillac is launching the all-new CT6 prestige sedan and XT5 crossover.

March 2016 Brand Sales Highlights:

  • Chevrolet sales are up 25 per cent for the month driven by sales of the Spark (up 213 per cent), Volt (up 262 per cent), Malibu (up 73 per cent), Impala (up 61 per cent), Colorado (up 10 per cent), Silverado (up 19 per cent), Trax (up 128 per cent) and Suburban (up 165 per cent)
  • Buick sales are up 13 per cent for the month driven by sales of the Verano (up 61 per cent)
  • GMC sales are up 6 per cent for the month led by sales of the Sierra (up 11 per cent) and GMC SUVs (up 12 per cent)
  • Cadillac sales are up 2 per cent for the month driven by sales of the SRX (up 9 per cent) and the Escalade (up 12 per cent)

Data is not adjusted for the difference in selling days March 2016 had 26 selling days and March 2015 had 25 selling days.
