Best Western Gets Pedalling for the NSPCC

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Nov. 19, 2010) - Best Western have today announced they have chosen the NSPCC as their new and exclusive charity to partner for their loyalty scheme. From today Best Western Rewards customers can convert their 'points' into pounds for the children's charity instead of exchanging them for treats for themselves.

The partnership is being launched with a fundraising event at head office in York where staff will be attempting to cycle from the top to the bottom of Great Britain in just 24 hours - without leaving the office! With two stationary bikes ready to go staff will take it in turns to cycle an average of 18mph and will be pedalling through the night to achieve their 874 miles goal.

The event will be streamed live on Facebook and fans of the page will be able to request fancy dress for staff to wear, suggest which hotels they should pass on their 'journey' and even ask for personal messages to be shown – all in exchange for donations of course.

Starting at 3pm the group hopes to kick-start the partnership by raising £10,000 from the event with further money to be raised throughout the year.

Tim Wade, head of marketing at Best Western (and first on the bike) said: "NSPCC is a charity that is close to everyone's hearts so we expect that this will be a very successful partnership. We are excited about kick-starting the fundraising and over 70 staff have already volunteered to take part in our cycling event.

"We have strong following on Facebook and Twitter so we hope that all our fans get behind us and support this challenge."

NSPCC Senior Fundraiser Derek Hill added: "We are delighted to be Best Western's charity for its Rewards scheme and will be following the bike ride closely. This initial fundraising event will be fantastic support for our vital services like ChildLine and the NSPCC Helpline, which are even more important around the Christmas period."

The Rewards scheme has 250,000 members in Great Britain and over one million worldwide who gain points each time they book a stay at a Best Western hotel. These points can be exchanged for money off vouchers from high street stores such as Debenhams, Marks and Spencers, free nights in any of the groups 4,000 hotels worldwide, gift cards, experience days and much more.

Best Western is the largest group of independent hotels in the UK. The hotels retain their individual charm and character but also offer the benefits of belonging to such a large group – ease of booking, a centralised system for room rates, great choice of location and guaranteed high standards.
