BevMo! to Celebrate Earth Day With 100% Cork Partnership

CONCORD, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 8, 2014) - Today BevMo! announced it will celebrate Earth Day by promoting cork education and awareness. The program, which is being offered in conjunction with 100% Cork, spans the month of April and highlights the environmental benefits of natural cork. 100% Cork is a global campaign to educate wine consumers, retailers and wineries about the environmental, technical and societal benefits of choosing wine sealed with natural cork. Customers at all BevMo! locations can also learn more about cork and cork recycling options through our partnership with ReCORK.

BevMo! first partnered with ReCORK, a cork-recycling initiative, to expand the cork recycling program into BevMo! stores on Earth Day 2012. BevMo! has continued to partner with ReCORK to recycle wine corks and promote cork education. BevMo! is a key partner, annually collecting the most corks of any retail partner in the California, Arizona and Washington regions. In 2013, BevMo! customers recycled more than 530,000 corks.

On April 22 BevMo! and 100% Cork are hosting an Earth Day event at the Walnut Creek BevMo! store from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to learn about the 100% Cork and BevMo! partnership while enjoying tastings of Wente Vineyards (certified sustainable) and ZD Wines (certified organic), both of which use cork exclusively to bottle their wine.

How you can get involved:

  • Donate your old, used corks to the collection bins at any of BevMo!'s 151 stores.
  • Attend BevMo!'s weekly tasting on Fridays and Saturdays at any BevMo! location during the month of April to receive free 100% cork coasters and learn more about cork and its environmental impact.

"Cork is an important component in the wine industry," said Bob Paulinski, Senior Vice President, Wine. "The ongoing initiative at BevMo! is a great way to educate wine lovers about the different wineries globally that use cork, the major role the cork industry plays in the wine business and the environmental benefits of using cork."

"We get calls and emails from people all the time who ask us where they can recycle their corks," says Matt Hughes, brand manager of ReCORK. "Many of the people we hear from are BevMo! customers and they are thrilled to learn that they can recycle their cork at the store they already shop at every single week."
