BGN Selects Vue Technology's RFID Infrastructure for Its Item Level Initiative

Building Upon Initial Proof-of-Concept Successes, the Netherlands Largest Book Retailer Selects Vue as It Prepares for Nationwide Rollout

LAKE FOREST, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 28, 2007 -- Vue Technology, the leading provider of item level RFID solutions, today announced that BGN (Boekhandels Groep Nederland), the Netherlands largest book retailer, has selected Vue's TrueVUE item level RFID infrastructure platform in support of their initiative to use RFID to drive operational benefits and improved customer service. BGN will use Vue's platform solution including TrueVUE Site Manager, TrueVUE Enterprise Manager, TrueVUE Exchange, TrueVUE RF Networking devices, and VUEPoints to continually track individual books within selected areas of its bookstores, and integrate the resulting item level data into existing BGN systems based on Progress software (Open Edge, Sonis ESB, EasyAsk and Apama). TrueVUE communicates fluently with the Sonic ESB message layer and makes it possible to process all the events in a split second.

As a leading adopter of item level RFID, BGN has already achieved success with the technology through a proof of concept deployment in two of its retail stores in the cities of Almere and Maastricht. Results have shown a 12% increase in sales, a significant decrease in receiving and inventory costs, a reduced risk of books being out of stock, and have provided BGN the ability to track which books are selling quickly and which haven't moved recently. As a result of this success, BGN has publicly announced its commitment to rolling item level RFID across all of its retail locations.

"We have a great deal of experience in using item level RFID with a focus on driving business benefits," said BGN's CIO Jan Vink. "After a thorough evaluation of the TrueVUE platform, it is clear to us that Vue is well ahead of its competition, and is the right choice for BGN as we continue to move forward in making RFID integral to our store operations."

With the ability to continually monitor the books in selected areas, BGN expects improved customer satisfaction and loyalty from having the right product readily available to the customer. Savings in labor costs around stocking and merchandising are also anticipated.

"We are pleased that the TrueVUE RFID Platform has have been selected by BGN, a market leader who understands that item level RFID will drive business benefits and deliver a significant ROI," said Robert Locke, CEO of Vue Technology. "We look forward to working with BGN to maximize these business benefits as they expand to a store-wide roll out."

Vue will team with CaptureTech Netherlands, the system integrator for BGN and Vue's latest distributor, to deliver the solution.
